The Death and the Taxes

The OHRID Institute for Economic Strategies and International Affairs, as partner Institute of the think tank International Policy Network from London has the honor to announce the new study which shows that import tariffs on medicines are gradually falling throughout the world, but remain stubbornly high in some countries – acting as a tax on the sick. The global average is now 3.5%, down from 5% in 2005. However, this masks exceptionally high tariff rates in countries such as Iran (30%), Burundi (15%), Nigeria (14.8%) and Tunisia (13%), the study shows. more...

Index of Globalization 2010

Once again,  Belgium comes  first in the  globalization stakes.  Austria, which was in 3rd place last year, now ranks 2nd. This year's fast climber is Luxembourg, which advanced from 21st place to 14th place. Switzerland still comes 4th on the globalization index. While economic and political globalization is advancing, social globalization is stagnating. The OHRID Institute for Economic Strategies and International Affairs, continued to track down the international indexes published by renowned institutions and organizations world wide. Namely in its last report the international organization Freedom House placed Macedonia in the group of "Partly Free" countries according to the level of democracy. more...

Spendometer

The OHRID Institute for Economic Strategies and International Affairs announces that from January 1st 2010, on the official website of the Institute you can find the Spendometer, which measures the spending of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia. This is a program that helps us see how much the government is spending per second, summarized from the begining of the year. The Institute developed this instrument in order to increase the transparency and inform the citizens of Macedonia about their government’s spending.

Leadership Monitoring 2

On 15th December 2009 the OHRID Institute for Economic Strategies and International Affairs held the presentation of the first Report of the monitoring and evaluation of the program activities of the Government of Republic of Macedonia in the period September 2008- October 2009. This report represents start of the second cycle of the Leadership Monitoring Project conducted by the OHRID Institute in 2007 and 2008. The Leadership Monitoring Project aims to provide broader picture to the wider public on the reforms planned and realized by the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, through constructive and comparative analysis of the Program of the Government. Corruption Perception Index 2009

According to the Transparency International Republic of Macedonia is on the 71st place in the Corruption Perception index Macedonia marked a mild shift of 0.2 index points at the Corruption Perception index list 2009 and ranked 71st, which is one spot up compared to 2008, Transparency International’s report announced on Tuesday. The research encompassed 180 countries and Macedonia follows Bulgaria, Greece and Romania. more...

Macedonia’s Credit Rating

Japan Credit Rating Agency JCR has issued a positive prognosis for Macedonia's credit rating, giving the country a BB+ with stable outlook. JCR has affirmed its BB+ rating on the foreign currency long-term senior debts and BBB-rating on the local currency long-term senior debts of the Republic of Macedonia. more...
